Code of Ethics

Members of  IACC have as a common goal the unification of its members and maintaining a strong association of members in the conference centre industry. IACC seeks to create positive interaction among its members to develop and improve the conference centre industry. IACC encourages the sharing of ideas, knowledge and technical skills and providing education to its membership with the belief that by working together in a unified way, our industry can provide the best possible service to all customers and be distinctively successful in delivering conference services to all customers.

The principles of this Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct are established to provide IACC members with guidelines for their professional conduct and to enhance the image of the conference center industry to those with whom they come in contact. Adherence to these principles is required for maintaining membership.

As a basic philosophy, IACC members subscribe to the belief and principle of treating others as they would like to be treated.

Conduct

The following principles of professional conduct signify professionalism, competence, fair dealing in a competitive market, and a high level of integrity in dealing with fellow IACC members. In addition, these principles establish a standard of conduct for members in their pursuit to further the objectives and mission of IACC.

IACC Members Shall:

  • Maintain the highest standard of professional conduct, honesty and integrity in conducting their business, professional and personal activities.
  • Conduct themselves and act within the areas of expertise and skill that they possess by honestly and fairly representing their professional competency.
  • Attempt to eliminate all practices which could be damaging to the public or bring discredit to our industry or IACC.
  • Serve all members of IACC impartially by not denying any service because of his/her national origin, race, religion, sexual orientation or physical or mental handicap.
  • Refuse to engage in or encourage activities for personal gain at the expense of IACC.
  • Not knowingly interfere with legal and contractual rights of others.
  • Not engage in any activity which is or would create a conflict of interest.
  • Maintain confidentiality of privileged information obtained by virtue of an office.
  • Use only legal and ethical means for all IACC activities.

Compliance

Failure to abide by the aforementioned principles may subject a member to disciplinary action as stipulated below. Any member of IACC who has a valid reason to believe that another member is in violation of this Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct may, in writing to the President or Executive Director of IACC, request that this claim be reviewed (in confidence) by the Executive Committee with all parties involved. If a member(s) of the Executive Committee is/are involved, then he/she/they shall withdraw from any participation in the evaluation of the merit of the claim and from rendering a decision on further action to be taken. If, in the judgment of the Executive Committee, the claim has sufficient validity, the Executive Committee will bring this matter to the attention of the Board of Directors for their resolution and/or further action.

Disciplinary action may consist of one or more of the following:

  • Letter of censure.
  • Suspension of membership and/or placement on probation.
  • Removal from elected or appointed office of IACC.
  • Expulsion of membership.

The IACC Board of Directors shall be the sole judge regarding an ethical matter or complaint. No officer, employee, member, or board member shall be liable for any action taken or not taken pursuant to this Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct or this procedure. All possible claims of liability arising out of such action shall be deemed to be waived by all applicants or members of IACC as a condition of obtaining and continuing membership in IACC.

Forum Code of Conduct

Overview

Thank you for your interest in the IACC Forum. This forum is designed to be a valuable platform for discussion and inquiry for IACC members and non members alike. In order to maintain a positive environment for all participants, the following Code of Conduct exists to highlight basic information and guidelines for participation. Please review this information in full before participating.

Administration and Moderation

IACC Forum Administrators and Moderators are comprised of IACC staff members.

IACC Administrators and Moderators reserve the right to edit, delete, or archive any Topic or Reply for any reason.

Though this is a moderated forum, all Topics and Replies reflect the views and opinions of the participant. IACC Administrators and Moderators might not always be available to actively monitor the forum for inappropriate participation. At the time that they become aware of inappropriate participation, IACC Administrators and Moderators reserve the right to edit, delete, or archive Topics and/or Replies as well as suspend or terminate access to any participant.

When an Administrator or Moderator finds a Topic or Reply to be in violation of the Code of Conduct, the Topic or Reply in question will be appropriately documented before it is edited, deleted, or archived. Whenever possible, the participant will be notified of the infraction (including a clarification of which aspect(s) of the Code of Conduct was found to be in violation).

Guidelines

  • Respect: Always be respectful to all forum participants (including Administrators and Moderators).
  • Unacceptable Content: Unacceptable content might be found in aliases, avatars, copy, images, links, etc. If a Topic or Reply contains unacceptable content, it might be edited, removed, or archived.
    • Adult, Obscene, and Vulgar Content: Any Topic or Reply containing adult, obscene, or vulgar content is strictly prohibited.
    • Abusive, Attacking, Flaming, Harassing, Hateful, Offensive, Rude, Threatening, and Trolling Content: Any Topic or Reply containing abusive, attacking, flaming, harassing, hateful, offensive, rude, threatening, or trolling content is strictly prohibited.
    • Illegal Content: Any Topic or Reply containing illegal content is strictly prohibited.
    • Defamatory and Slanderous Content: Any Topic or Reply containing defamatory or slanderous content is strictly prohibited. This includes, but is not limited to the following personal information: address, employment information, and phone number.
    • Profanity: Any Topic or Reply containing profanity is strictly prohibited.
    • Solicitations: Any Topic or Reply containing a direct solicitation, unless explicitly requested, is strictly prohibited. This includes, but is not limited to, language, such as, “our services”, “we are the best at”, and “my business”.
    • Spam: Any Topic or Reply containing spam is strictly prohibited.
    • Violent Content: Any Topic of Reply containing violent content is strictly prohibited.
  • Topics and Replies Etiquette:
    • Before starting a New Topic, always verify a similar Topic does not already exist. New Topics containing content previously discussed within that last 30 days might be declined. If the New Topic is declined, the participant is encouraged to Reply to the previous Topic.
    • Before posting a Reply, always verify a similar Reply does not already exist and/or that the Reply is posted to the most appropriate Topic.
    • A Reply might be declined if it is not considered relevant to the Topic.
    • Cross Sub Forum posting and cross Topic posting is strictly prohibited.
  • New Topics and Replies:
    • Once logged in, participants will notice checkboxes to the left of all Sub Forum Topics. These checkboxes will appear blue for all Sub Forum Topics containing new Replies.
  • Editing of Topics and Replies: When an Administrator or Moderator finds a Topic or Reply to be in violation of the Code of Conduct, the Topic or Reply in question will be appropriately documented before it is edited, deleted, or archived. Whenever possible, the participant will be notified of the infraction (including a clarification of which aspect(s) of the Code of Conduct was found to be in violation).
  • Appeals: If a participant believes they have been deemed in violation of the Code of Conduct in error and would like to appeal to the IACC Administrators and Moderators, the participant is encouraged to contact us using the Contact Us form on our website or by emailing info@iacconline.org.
  • Quarantine: A restricted Sub Forum, titled Quarantine, exists to house all Topics and Replies, where appropriate, deemed in violation of the Code of Conduct.
  • Multiple Accounts: Participants may only have one active account.
  • Aliases and Signatures:
    • Alias: Participants are required to populate the Alias field with their full First Name and Last Name.
    • Signature: Participants are required to populate the Signature field with the full First Name and Last Name as well as their Company Name.
  • Links: Participants are encouraged to incorporate links into their content as long as the links resolve to sites that comply with the Code of Conduct. To add a live link to a Topic or Reply, participants must copy the live link from another location (for example an email or a Word document) and paste it into the Topic or Reply.

This Code of Conduct might evolve over time to appropriately accommodate the needs of IACC Forum participants. It is the participant’s responsibility to periodically monitor this Topic for updates. Please see also our Code of Ethics.
